Level: Secondary 2 ESO




Objective: For my final project I will be focusing on the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. This is an important time in history in the US and around the world so the topic will introduce students to US history and the cultural value of equality. Students will also be able to practice past simple and past continuous tenses when talking about historical events in the past. The objectives for students are to 1. Describe the Civil Rights Movement 2. Name key historical figures 3. Understand the new vocabulary terms 4. Correctly use past tenses when speaking about the past.

Time: One 50-minute class session. 30 minutes for the presentation, video, and listening. 20 minutes for the review worksheet and questions.


Description: The students will observe a presentation on the Civil Rights Movement. The presentation will begin with a brief overview of African American History in the US including slavery and Jim Crow Laws. Then the presentation will go over famous figures in the movement, specifically focusing on Martin Luther King. Students will watch a short video on the life of MLK and listen to the famous I Have a Dream Speech. They will answer discussion questions periodically to check understanding. Then students will review the lesson and grammar with a past tense worksheet with exercises related to the topic.
